Through the Chair of the English Department, Upsilon Sigma of Whittier College connected with Auntie’s Bakery, a new bakery and cafe opening in the Whittier area. They proposed an exciting poetry contest. Auntie’s Bakery would choose the best poems from students, faculty and staff and print them on their shop mugs. As an extra incentive, three 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners would be chosen from the student entries for cash prizes and Auntie’s products. But every entry would get to keep a poem mug of their own!
Upsilon Sigma created a flyer for the contest, and advertised it around campus. The English and History Department Secretary, Angela Olivas, would collect the entries and send them to Auntie’s Bakery at the end of the contest.
